I want to buy a Zero & Corsair from WWII?

Hi, me and a few of my buddies got bored and wanted to know where we could buy a Zero and a Corsair fighter plane from WWII (a working model). We're planning to rig them up so we can fly them remotely and see which one can shoot the other down. Thanks!

  1. There is one, count 'em one, flying authentic Zero in the world.  It ain't for sale.  Corsairs are around, but the majority aren't from WW2, they are by and large post-war/Korea era.  The ones that fly start at $2M.

As for the second part of question, without any flying experience, or air combat training-how you gonna execute this?  MS Flight simulator is NOT the same as flying, especially a very high performance piston-engine fighter.

Get a couple RC models, and have at it.

Got bored?   Do you have few million dollars for each plane?  That what they go for these day.

Okay...  Maybe you can sell me a bridge too.

    Nubbies.  New one every week...

    Good Luck...

  3. WTF?

Why would you want to destroy rare warbirds? Because you and your buddies are bored?

That's a selfish reason to destroy history.

Go buy a model airplane and shoot that down.

Leave the WW II warbirds alone!

  4. I think you can get them in the hobby isle at Wal Mart.  You have to add the sound effects yourself.  Why not buy Combat Simulator or Battle Over the Pacific and simulate all you want all day.

  5. I assume you mean a Radio Control Airplane - because you will not find a pair of real aircraft.

First the Zero- there is only about 4 example left in the world and they are all in museums.  Even in the movie Tora Tora Tora they used North American T-6 aircraft modified and painted to look like Japanesse Zero.  If your lucky to go to the South Pacific and recover a airplane from a crash site you will probably spend a couple of million dollars just restoring it.

As for the Corsair - you can find a few of those on the market from time to time but that will cost you probably between 1 and 2 million.  Do not bother trying to recover an airplane from a crash site the Navy claim ownership to all those and they will just take it away from you.

So if you have about 4 million plus the cost to make them remote controllable you and your friends can have fun.

Or go out and buy a few 1/4 scale models and go to town.

  6. If you actually had the money to consider this, you would "Not" be asking people on yahoo answers. So the only thing I can think of is that 1) Your just bull$hhiting everyone, or 2) You are interested in Model Aircraft.

But to all these people protesting you doing this to Rare War Birds...I love Aircraft and Aviation just as much as many of you do. I love WWII Fighters also. If I had the money i would own a P-51D.

But we don't have the money, and if someone that does wants to rig them to a remote control then thats there prerogative and there is nothing wrong with that.

Just because we cannot afford to buy these aircraft on our own does not mean we can tell others that can, what to do with them. Grow up and let people do what they want as long as it is legal.

  7. Why would you want to destroy these rare warbirds?

That's a mighty expensive form of bordom you got there.

Corsairs are dificult to come by, but with enough money you might be able find one for sale. However, there are very, very few flying Zeros left in the world, and those are basically priceless.

And even if you could find one and you could afford to buy it, rigging any airplane to become a flying, shooting, drone is mighty difficult. You had better have some mighty good skills at doing this.

Not to mention the idea of actually flying in a dogfight to the death comes down to pilot skill not just the actual airplane's charactaristics.

So basically it comes down to this, unless you have unlimited financial resources you can forget about this idea.

You are better off doing this on a video game. It's far less expensive and it will save a rare warbird for future generations to enjoy.
