Question:

I want to buy a boat but it has no title, should I or the current owner get a bonded title?

I found this boat on craigslist. Looks pretty nice and cheap, which may make it suspicious. How should I go about buying this? Should I have the current owner get the bonded title and sign it over to me? Or should I just pay for it and then try to get the bonded title myself? Thanks

  1. This day and age "no paper no purchase".    Just be very cautious on the buying without a title. Some states in years past did not issue titles for rv's.

  2. I think you already know the answer to this question, but here goes:  The seller should provide a clear title.  If they do not, you may well get stuck with stolen property.  You will have problems, and may not be able to license/register the boat at all.

  3. DON'T pay money until you have a clear title.  Once the seller gets the money - he has no motivation to move to help you get the title (assuming it is all OK).

    Good Luck...
