  1. Don't buy greyhounds because you can't ride them. But horses throughbreds, quarter horses or arabian, you can ride them.

  2. First step is to enquire about the requirements of the controlling authority  of racing in your local area.

The next is to decide whether to kennel the dog with a trainer or to keep it 'at home'( talk to local authorities about their stipulations/requirements)

Third is the age of the dog.

A pup can't race and a 'mature dog' is bloody expensive ( because it's either got a history of successful racing or it's unlikely to recover it's vet, registration or tucker costs.

From my experience one dog in twenty will chase enthusiastically and maybe one in a hundred will  actually win a race other than their Maiden.

A better idea might be to join an owner's syndicate... shared cost but all of the privleges and status at the track too.

  3. Why dont you just get a common puppy from the pound, keep it in a cage, 24/7, try to train it with pain and beating it, keep it for 2 years, then, just take it out and kill it?????????  Why do you think that there are all of these Greyhound Rescue Adoptions Leagues around?  Because they don't have anything better to do??  Check with them, on what happens to non-race winning dogs, how they are trained, then go get yourself a life.

  4. go to your nearest dog track. check your program for the leading kennel. then about 1 hour before 1st post they weigh each dog for that nights racing card. call a handler over to you and give him your info to give to the owner, so you can get into the sport of racing. don't let that other person talk you out of getting into the sport.

  5. This is the horse racing section.

  6. If you've never owned a racing dog before visit this site first:

    http://www.ngagreyhounds.com/

It's in Kansas, and has comprehensive info on all aspects of greyhound racing.

In general, i agree with the critic of greyhound racing; it is a cruel sport. But virtually all sports involving animals is cruel to some degree (including rodeo).

And like all animal racing, the sport is often dishonest.  Greyhounds can be made to lose in ways the gneral public does not realize - not watering a dog ready to run; tiny bits of ground glass on their paw pads; bad feed.  And more, the list is endless.  As a potential owner you should be aware of these things; the kennel help often think they are the whole show, and will do things of which the owners are  unaware.

Don't rush in. Check it out thoroughly. Talk to other owners. Altho owning a dog is cheaper than a racehorse, there are still daily expenses.  Investigate.

  7. THE BEST WAY TO GO ABOUT BUYING A GREYHOUND FOR RACING IS TO GO TO A GREYHOUNG RACING TRACK NEAR YOU.

GO TO THE "RACE OFFICE"(THATS WHERE THE RACING OFFICALS WHO MAKE UP THE RACECARD ARE)AND ASK THEM TO RECCOMEND A TRAINER FOR YOU.

THEY WILL BE VERY RECEPTIVE TO YOU AS THEY ALWAYS WANT "NEW" BLOOD IN THE SPORT.THEY WILL GET YOU IN TOUCH WITH A GOOD TRAINER ,WHO WILL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SPORT.

THIS INCLUDES HOW MUCH A DOG WILL COST YOU TO BUY,KEEP TRAINED AND YOUR $$$ POTENTIAL OF YOUR GREYHOUND.

ITS THE BEST AND SAFEST WAY.

  8. This is HORSE racing, not dog racing.

  9. depending on where you are in the world, there are many websites that have greyhounds for sale.

the other option is to ring up your local greyhound club, as sometimes they advertise dogs for sale on a notice board.

good luck with it all and let us know how you go.
