I want to buy a jet ski but do i need a special license? Do i need insurance? Im 18 and live in NY?

I dont know anything about what i need to have to be able to drive a jet ski legally if i buy one. Can someone please let me in on what the steps are that i need to take? This is the first jet ski i would own. Do i need to register it? insure it? have a special license? I live in NY and am 18 with a valid drivers license.

well i live in tn and yes you need to register it with the wildlife program and you need insurance
