An Ibanez or Schecter.

Epiphone, Ibanez, LTD, Schecter are all brands that would work just fine. Find one that feels good and isn't too heavy. For your first guitar, do not get a floating trem - even the best trems go out of tune when you whammy enough.

To really get an aggressive sound, its not so much about the guitar as it is about some fatty humbucker pickups. I would recommend Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio pickups.

Finally, the better the amp is, the better your tone is. Tone doesn't come from a pedal, it comes from a good amp. I really like the Epiphone Valve Jr amp, it has a very nice sound for a very affordable price. Put a distortion pedal in front of it, and you should have great punk or metal tone for days.
