  2. There's a couple ways to go about doing this, and it really depends on how much data you want to transfer and what tools you have available to you.  Keep in mind that you cannot transfer programs directly, though you can transfer just about anything else such as photos, music, and documents.

    Option 1: Burn a Disc

If your old computer has a CD or DVD burner and the files you need fit on a few discs, just go ahead and burn them onto a disc.  Then on your new computer you can just put the discs in there and copy the files from the disc to your computer.

    Option 2: External Hard Drive

If you have access to an external hard drive, you can plug that into your old computer, copy all the files onto the hard drive, the plug the hard drive into your new computer and copy them from there.  This method works best when you have lots of data to transfer that would take too much time and too many discs using Option 1.

Option 3: Slaving your Old Hard Drive in your New Computer

Probably the most complicated method of transfering, but definitely another option.  In most cases, you can take the hard drive out of your old computer and install it in your new computer.  Then you just copy the files from the old hard drive to your new computer's hard drive.  If you aren't comfortable opening up your computers, then this option is definitely not for you.  Also, if your new computer is a laptop, this option likely will not work.

    Option 4: USB Transfer Cable

Another semi-complicated option but works great if you have lots of files to transfer and don't want to invest in an external hard drive.  Instead, you connect the two computers together with a USB cable and use software (typically comes with the cable) to transfer from one computer to the other.
