  1. Weight.

Are you able to handle the weight of the laptop.

    Size.

Is the size convenient to handle.

    Brands.

Some brands are better. For instances, acer.

    Value.

As in the power value, some have higher storage value.

    Guarantee.

    1 yaer/3year?

  2. At least 2gb of ram

at least a dual core processor

at least 150 gb hard drive

at least 256mb of video memory

running widows vista that should get you good performance for a decent price...

but that wont get you into todays gaming scene

  3. Depends on what you want to do. If you want to just surf the web, watch YouTube, watch a few movies, IM, MySpace, Facebook, etc., then you should get a laptop with at least 2GB of RAM and a dual core processor clocked at 1.8Ghz or higher.

If you are into gaming or movie editing and such, then you should get a laptop with a dual core processor clocked 2.0Ghz or higher, at least 3GB of RAM and a high end graphics card.

  4. September PC Magazine Readers' Choice ratings, in this order: Apple, Lenovo, Sony, Dell, Acer, HP, Toshiba, Gateway

That said, specifications I think you might consider and research:

    - cost, of course

    - sturdiness: How long do you want it to last?

    - keyboard: Comfort is SURPRISINGLY important! Be SURE to go to the store and grope the keyboard. PLEASE!

    - operating system: Is it the right one? (i.e., MacOS versus Windows versus Linux)

    - memory (Is it enough for the OS and is it enough for the software you intend to buy and is it enough for the application speed you want? Gaming takes more memory than document editing!)

    - disk space (Enough? 5 years of photos eats up far more space than 5 years of memos)

    - wireless abilities (No doubt!)

    - enough USB ports (Of course, how many will you use, at once?)

    - good enough and big enough screen (Be realistic! Maybe you DON'T need 17" - save some $$$ and maybe you could even get by with 13")

    - portable? (Don't be hard on yer back and yer suitcase!)

    - support, support, support

  5. it depends on what you want to use it for.

If you just going to be using the internet, and printing documents.  You'll be fine with windows XP and the cheapest computer you can find.

If you have lots of music you want to store look for a big hard drive.

windows vista is pretty cool, you'll want 2gb of ram for that.

  6. That depends on what operating system you have to have and exactly what you are wanting to do with it. There are some inexpensive laptops that are sold with a Linux version for an operating system that are very minimal. My daughter took one to Korea with her. She uses it to access her email, do some web browsing, and runs Skype for calling home. It's a real weak machine but it cost her next to nothing and it does exactly what she wanted. To figure out what specifications you will need first you have to determine exactly what you want it for. Then get a machine that meets the requirements for the programs you need to run to accomplish what you bought the machine for. If you can afford it go twice as high as required.

  7. it should be comfortable for your cat to sleep on
