A friend of mine is selling his car he wants me to pay $6,500 for it:

2001 Honda Civic LX Sedan 4-doors

139,000 miles

5 speed

6-disc cd changer

drop-down DVD player

Power windows/locks

medium-sized dent on rear of car

scrapes, some minor body damage (not very noticeable)

leak in AC system - needs new hose

needs new air cabin filter

DO YOU THINK HE IS CHARGING ME TOO MUCH OR IS $6500 A FAIR PRICE FOR THIS CAR?? I LIVE IN MISSOURI.

  1. Too much for the condition. It books for about $4800 retail at best.

  2. The private party value on Edmunds.com (which is more accurate than KBB) is $3,200. Even if you gave it an overly generous rating of "clean" ("average" is much more accurate considering the body damage and other repairs it needs) it's only worth $4,800.

Tell him to dream on. There's no way he sells that car for more than $4,000. No way, no how.

  3. Way to high in my opinion, especially for dents and other things on the body.  ANd most importantly the ac needing repairs.

This is what the bluebook thinks it should sell for, I still think even 4500 is to much.

  4. its in the $5000

  5. that seems like a pretty good deal if he got the air cabin filter and the new hose.
