Hi everyone:

I have kept aside $6k for the car. I want to buy a car which is no older than year 2000. So, should I just look for a honda or toyota? Also, how much mileage on the car will be safe enough for that kind of investment. I usually go with a calculation: 2008 - Make year X 15k miles = x miles. I don't go for a car which is more than 5k miles than my calculation. Do you think I will ever get a used car in that way;-). Please advise. Thanks.

  1. My previous car was a 1996 honda accord I sold it after 150,000 trouble free miles, just got tired of it. Before that a 1982 Nissan sentra,225,000 miles no trouble/repair's until over 175,000 miles. I drove my commuter vehicle (1982 datsun pick up truck) 512,000 miles. Of course it required repairs, but not as many as one might expect. My point is if a person buys a well maintained although high mileage Japanese car it would be a sane move in my opinion, of course the lower the mileage the better. The fuel mileage's have been very good also.

  2. Honda

    Accord 01

    Civic 01-02

    Hyundai

    Elantra 04

    Santa Fe V6 02

    Sonata 03

    Nissan

    Frontier 00

    Xterra 01

    Toyota

    Camry 00-01

    Corolla 02

    Echo 03

Hondas and Toyotas are selling at prices that are inflated, you can buy a reliable Hyundai for much less. The only negative is a low resale value.

for a few thousand more look a Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix 03-04

  3. Buy a Toyota Corolla. It is the best car in your price range and your fuel requirements

  4. In your price range and year range, try the Mazda Protege.
