yeah walmart has cheap ones. check out walmart.com. and just so you know, he should be picking his own band out to make sure he gets one he likes.

I got my husband's silver wedding band at a Piercing Pagoda in the mall. Its one of those little jewelry store setups in pagodas at the mall. Try a store like that. Silver is actually very inexpensive. His band cost about $15. If you're thinking of white gold, then a white gold band will be about $100 or more. I got my husband a silver band, because he is currently in Iraq, and his ring will basically be torn up by the time he comes home. Make sure the ring is sterling silver otherwise it will tarnish (turn green and turn his finger green). Not ALL silver tarnishes, sterling silver is 100% fine. Its a good alternative. I can't tell the difference between my white gold band and his silver band. His has held up well, even to Iraq conditions. But a sterling silver band does NOT need to be put on layaway. It will cost you less than $25 EASILY. They also had designed wedding bands, but we chose a plain sterling silver one. Good luck!

Silver tarnishes, so I would go with white gold. It looks like silver, but doesn't have he high maintenance of silver. I would check out places like JC Penny, Walmart, and Ice. They all actually have great jewelry.
