I want to by a kitten?

for my girlfriend the first weekend of november? and i hear that it is breeding season. I live in californa...do they breed year around?

Find out if she wants a kitten first.  They cost a lot over the years and she might not be able to afford it.  You really need to let her decide things like that.

I know that most cats are born in the spring/early summer so finding a kitten might be hard. You could try a local SPCA to see if they have any, and then you'll know you took an unwanted animal off the streets. Or you could try kijiji.com and search through the cat adds there. If you want to pay a little more money you could try a professional breeder, they normally have kittens ready to go year round. Good luck :)

Go to a shelter and get a gift certificate and let your girlfriend choose the cat she will be taking care of.  You can't presume to know exactly which animal will "click" with her, and personalities have a lot to do with it.  If your local animal shelter doesn't do gift certificates, then make one on the computer and go with her to pay the fees.  But my advice - I strongly encourage you - let HER pick out the one SHE wants.

I wouldn't "BUY" a kitten, Look at the shelters they are full of kittens that need homes, I found 2 of my PURE breed siamese at a shelter, they were only 6 weeks old, Please save a life, adopt from a shelter
