Hello, I'm not American, so I don't know if you use inches or something like that.

The mass compactness of polyethylene is 0,94g/cm ³.

I must calculate the mass of a block polyethylene of 2dm ³.

Given: mass compactness = 0,94g/cm ³. , block polyethylene of 2dm ³

Asked: the mass of a block polyethylene of 2dm ³

Solution: …?

  1. mass = density * volume

    density of polyethylene  = 0.94g/cm ^3

    volume of polyethylene  = 2dm ^3

                                       = 2[(10 ^ -1m) ^3]

                                       = 2(10 ^ -3m^3)

                                       = 2(10 ^ -3) [(10 ^2 cm) ^3]

                                       = 2(10 ^ -3) [(10 ^6 cm^3]

                                       = 2(10^3 cm^3)

    mass of polyethylene= 0.94 * 2(10^3 cm^3)

                                        = 1880g

    THE UNIT USE MUST BE THE SAME

    THEREFORE, YOU SHOULD LOOKED CAREFULLY OF THE UNIT AND THE CONVERSION OF UNIT MUST BE DONE BEFORE THE CALCULATION.

  2. I have never met the expression "mass compactness", but it seems to mean the same thing as density.

    Density x volume = mass

    Volume = 2 dm^3 = 2,000 cm^3

    Notice how I have given you units that will cancel out to give you your answer in g. Take it from there.

  3. Density  p or mass compactness is mass m over volume V

    p=m/V

    then

    m= pV

    Just don't forget to convert dm ³ into cm ³.

    m = 0.94 g/cm ³ x 2dm ³  x 10³  ( using 10³  since 1 dm = 10 cm)

    m=1880 g

    PS. We the Americans use a lot of things like inches, feet and also centimeters.
