I am working for a project and i want to calculate the savings in energy in terms of reduction in AC consumption when reflective materials are applied on houses.

These reflective materials lower the temperature of the room .

  1. It would be better to say you insulate the walls. Most of the heat though gets trapped above the ceiling in the roof cavity. If you use vents on the sides of the roof this will reduce the heat in the roof and therefore the house.

    The sun shines through the windows and if you mean you want to tint the windows to keep the house cool you can take a reading off a kilowatt hour meter that you can install at the db board in a fixed period. If you haven't worked with electricity yet get someone who knows.

    Then apply your tint and then measure the reading after the same fixed period and making sure you leave the same lights on and you don't bath or wash dishes more often. Then you compare the readings.

    There should not be a lot of heat generated inside through walls unless they are very thin and get a lot of sun.
