I'm trying to contact my brother working in La Serena. Can you please explain the correct method of how to make an international call to both a mobile and a home phone? I seem to be dialing the wrong number as it gives me an engaged tone each time. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

  1. Ok:

    is simple:

    Chile: 56

    La Serena. 51

    Number: 2707XX

you need to do is dialing

    for international call 056 51 2707XX

    or (carrier)0 56 51 270 7XX

    for a cell phone:

056 9 number (if the telephone has 7 numbers) if has 8:

    56 number

  2. You have to have the exit code from Australia then the country code for Chile then the area code and the telephone number Check in the Telephone directory as it will give you the codes for all the above except the local telephone number I have found that in some countries there is an 0 but you have to drop the 0.  I am not sure about Chile. This goes for both mobile and ordinary phone

  3. The last answer was great...the only thing I would add, on some seven digit cell numbers, is that you might need to use both a "9" and an "8".  About six months ago, they started making me dial an eight after the nine...so I now dial, 001-56-98-562-5673 to call the number.  (This is the actual number that works...I just changed the last four digits here)
