Question:

I want to change doctor to new area.?

I have moved to a new area miles from where I was for personal and safety reasons.

I now need to have a new doctor but I do not want the doctor or receptionist at old surgery to know where I have moved to - it is a very small village and regardless of rules they all talk.

Is there any way I can have my medical records moved via somewhere else to the new practice without them knowing which one.

Or can I just ask for them and take them to new one myself. Thanks.

  1. You can go to your old Gp practise & ask for your medical card, take the card along with you to any other practise ( better to find out before hand if they are taking on new patients at your chosen practise ).

Hand the card to the receptionist there & sign up at the new practise. Your medical records will be obtained via the Health Authority. Employees of your old Gp Practise are not allowed to divulge your where abouts by law, if they do & if is proved that they have done so, then they will face instant dismissal.

    Good Luck.X :-)

  2. The only mechanism to do this is to fill in a registration form at your new GP surgery, the records are then requested from your old GP. You cannot take them yourself.

  3. I think and I may not be right, that when you register at a new practise your notes go to the Area Health Authority first. They then allocate which Doctor you will use at the new practise. Make yourself an appointment at the new Docs and have a word with them. Don't forget all practises have to operate under the Data Protection Act, so if anyone lets slip where you are they are in big trouble.

    Good Luck x
