I want to change my name, what do i have to do?

i have been divorced for 6 years and want to change to my maiden name now. where do i have to go? will it cost anything?

  1. In the US, you can use any name you wish so long as it is not for fraudulent purposes.

    but to make it legal, you  petition the court for a name change.

    i have no idea if you need a lawyer.

    You may need to notify the social security office.

  4. Local councils registras office should be able to do it. If not  they will know who can help.

  5. Well when you go to change your name when you get married you go to your local social securtiy office.  So I would call there and ask them.  Then go from there.  If you're just going back to your maiden name I doubt it will be that big of a deal.
