Do I cite the book the quote is in, or the book it's originally from?

  2. i believe that you cite the quote where you found it. If your teacher is going to check your sources, then they would look where you looked. And if they want to look further, they can use the source cited in that book.

  3. Depends on the format you're using (APA, MLA, etc.) in general, you can place the citation in the form:

    Schmoe, J., (1999). Clever Things I Said, quoted in Flintstone, W. (2002).Clever things Joe said.

    You need to know the styleguide your paper is supposed to use.

    If you cannot get the styleguide information get the book that's being quoted and find where your quote appears in that book. Never assume a book is quoting correctly.
