Is it safe to stay in a mobile home when a hurricane is approaching. My grandmother lives in one; I'm stay with my grandmother. We have no where else to go, but we stay inland away from the storm. I actually stay in Zachary, LA about 1 hour from New Orleans. The only shelter that's avaliable is in Baton Rouge, LA. It makes no sense to go to Baton Rouge when we stay right in Zachary, LA. Are we ok here?

  1. Unfortunately, tornadoes go along with hurricanes after they hit land. So even if the hurricane winds don't damage the mobile home, there is a possibility of a tornado doing damage.

I would fear a mobile home even in a heavy thunderstorm. Sitting in one while a hurricane goes by is something I just ain't gonna do.

You don't need to evacuate your town or area, but if there is any way possible, don't ride out this storm in a mobile home. It just isn't worth the risk.

Now, I'm worried about you dear. Keep me posted on how things turn out.

  2. If they haven't set an emergency evacuation then you should be okay for now. They have buses that will transport you to the nearest shelter. But when they tell you to evacuate i suggest getting to the nearest safety shelter and staying their until it is okay to leave

  3. Mobile homes aren't safe. When a hurricane occurs, they usually tell people in the mobile homes to evacuate first before people in residential homes.

    I hope this helps
