  1. borrow your friends one, it does work and im talking about reboot disc

  2. If you are a novice, the best thing for you to do is take your computer to a specialist / professional. As I know very very well, trying to fix a computer by yourself, even if you know what you are doing, can bring up problem after problem. If you don't know what you are doing, you will probably NEVER find out how to fix all of them. When I do something like this, it can take me an entire day... and then some. It's all because of the little things that can happen to cause problems.

Best places to look are small, local businesses. Don't ever take it to some place like circuit city or your school's technician. Those places don't care if they help you or not. The smaller businesses, however, have to be able to help you or they wouldn't survive as a business.... so you can trust that they will know exactly what to do.

They're usually reasonable as far as pricing is concerned, no more than $100 or so for something like taking your computer back to factory settings. But if they're popular, they may have a waiting period of a week or more because of all the other computer they have to fix. When my laptop's hard drive died, I didn't have time to fix it, and they said it would take a week. I needed it for a history class I was taking and Thanksgiving break was almost over. I payed for them to put a rush on my computer, it was about $50 extra... but they did it as soon as I gave it to them. Took them less than one day. They had to do everything that it would require to take your computer back to factory settings, with the additional time they had to take to put in the new hard drive. But if you don't have any hurry, then it won't cost all that much.

In fact it'll probably cost less than buying a copy of windows for you self!

  3. Assuming your PC is still a 'runner', first download the "Motherboard Drivers", you need to know the motherboard manufacturer & model. As your PC boots up, a load of text appears at the top of the screen in white on black, hit the "Pause/Break" key on your keyboard, make notes of what it tells you.... at the least it will give the maker and model. Now, in your Yahoo browser, enter the model name, this should lead you to the makers site, go there, enter/find your motherboard. Look for "Support"/ "Downloads", download the drivers, burn them to disk, label the disc!

If you have files you want to keep, then burn these to disc also. I use outlook express, you can export these, "File>Export>Address Book, use the CSV option, save the file, you can then either burn the file to disc, or (cheeky) e-mail it to yourself.

Then, using a copy of Windows (XP or Vista) insert disk, then restart, it should give you the option to "Boot From CD". If not, you will have to go to the "Setup" to change the boot settings, this is not as bad as it sounds, in those first screens when the PC boots, generally it says " Press <Key> (could be delete) to enter "Setup". Here, using the "Boot Order" options, ensure the CD is before the hard drive in the list.

So, now we are installing windows, should be an option to format the drive somewhere in the first part of the install. Follow the prompts, let it roll, and you will install windows. Now, before anything else, get the "Motherboard Drivers" in from the disk you created. This means clicking on the "setup.exe" file(s) Next, we need to install some anti-virus, so put in your choice whatever you have. Then, lets get it up to date, we must get it 'on the web'. This is easy! Get onto "Windows Explorer", "Program Files> Internet Explorer>Connection Wizard> click on "icwconn1.exe"  and, as ever, follow the prompts. This should get you surfing, maybe on MSN!!!.  If you managed to get your precious files to CD, then ignore the next bit. I have used "Arax Disc Doctor" at this point  to recover my precious files (yes, I know we have formatted etc but, this is a magic program) http://www.disk-doctor.com/ cost $40, but so good!!!!. After this, you will need to ensure your Windows (Windows Update Website) and antivirus are up to date, and you are 'good for a cruise'. Before you get too exited, a good plan to create a backup disc or disc set, www.acronis.com "True Image", then, if all goes 'belly up' later you are only 30 mins away from your original setup. Just E-Mail, for a walk-through

  4. Go back to factory settings [just as it was the day you bought it] all the information/downloads you need to do this are here:

    http://fosearchcool.com/for/reset+comput...

  5. You could just buy a copy of windows that you currently have (wouldn't recommend going to a higher version such as vista just get the  same operating system) after that back up all the files you want to keep put the disk in of windows shut down your computer and reboot it with the disk in and it should install that windows if it doesn't open up my computer and right click on your hard rive( most likely c:) and then left click on format . After that just restart computer with disk in. If you have any problems just email me
