Question:

I want to close my bank account?

When I opened my bank account I didnt have a signature, so when I signed the paperwork I just wrote my name. So is this sufficient to satisfy the bank or do I have to precisely get the writing the same as well?

I used my school ID and Passport to open it up, should I bring that as well?

Any additional info would be good too, thanks.

  2. Hello Ken,

You need to write your name again and the people at the bank are quick to spot if it looks enough like the "signature" that they have on file from when you opened the account.

Yes your ID and passport should be enough to close the account. Unless you are a minor, then they might want one of your parents to co-sign.

One small tip, learned from a bad "slow bank" experience: if you have a lot of money in the account, you may want to withdraw that and/or put in your savings account, BEFORE you close the bank account. They can take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to refund the balance they still owe you.
