I am currently taking my general education in college and am aiming for an A.A in music. What University in the west coast (preferably in southern California) would be a good school to transfer to, any suggestion in classes, how can I use an A.A in music to pursue this career? The more information, the more beneficial it will be.

Thank you for your answers!! : ) ------> Annibalien23

  1. You can use the A.A. degree to enter a college of music with a conducting course.  Do some research and locate them then contact them for what THEY require as a minimum for admission.

  2. conducting is not often offered as an undergrad degaree. its a graduate degree.

    The best thing you could do is find out what any university would require for an appropriate undergrad degree, (BA performance, composition, music education) then make sure you get the proper coursework to transfer to a graduate program for a masters degree in conducting.

    I would suggest you finish your AA, transfer to a cal state university with a strong music program-like CSU fullerton, complet your BA-then transfer to USC (they do have an excellent graduate degree program in their music department).

  3. I'm not familiair with the AA degree:  is that the Associates of Arts?  That's a two year degree, and you need a four year, undergraduate degree in conducting, and then probably a Masters (MM).

    The best school in Southern California is USC, which is an expensive private school with high entrance requirements.  USC (University of Sourthern California) is "the Julliard of the West Coast."  I don't know what your conducting skills are now but if you want to be a conductor, probably good.

    There is a very good YahooGroups for conductors, and you might want to post your question there also:
