I want to connect 2 sets of speakers to the same output on the back of my amp?

i want to put a second set of speakers outside in the garden but i only have space for 1 set of speakers on my amp. will 2 sets of speakers blow my amp? or damage my speakers?

  1. I agree with 1st answer.  Small switchable box is easy to set-up and will prevent potential problems, plus, you wil be able to have either set on on individually or both at once.


  2. It depends on the specs of your amp and the impedance of your speakers.  If you take (2) 8 ohm speakers and wire them in parallel, your amp effectively "sees" 4 ohms.  That will drive the amp harder and it may not like that kind of load.  Check the manual for the ratings.   You could get an autoformer based speaker switcher or Volume control unit to help you match the impedances.

  3. Most speakers are 8 ohms impedance.

    Doubling speakers halves impedance. (=4 ohms)

    Your amp can handle 6 ohms minimum.
