I want to connect my directTV and dvd to my surrond sound system.?

I want to connect my Vizio TV to my surrond sound system. I have the dvd/receiver and direct tv receiver connected via HDMI cables. However the the surrond only works with the dvd player. How do I do the connections such that the all sound from the tv goes through the surround sound.

Its hard to give you an exact way without knowing the capabilities of your surround receiver, but this is how I do it.

DVD leave the way you have it

DTV  run either a fiber optic (toslink) or digital coax line to your receiver.

          

If you don't have either spots open on your receiver use the red and white coated audio outs from your direct tv box to your surround receiver for sound.

          

Don't forget to turn off the volume on your tv from within your tv menu since your hdmi cables are also running sound "to" your tv. You don't want both the surround sound and tv giving you sound at the same time.
