I consider myself a beginner, I have only made blankets, pot holders, and the such. I am interested in finding an easy pattern to make and donate these caps to a hospital. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. My favorite hat pattern is really simple and I have even used it with wool and a large hook and then felted the hat.  Basically, this is how it goes:

chain 2, sc in first st 6 times.

2 sc in each sc around (12 total)

(sc, 2 sc) around (18 total)

    (sc, sc, 2 sc) around...

continue in this pattern until circle is approximately 5 or 6 inches across (usually about 6 or 7 sc between the 2 sc) then work evenly in sc until the hat is deep enough.

If you plan to felt the hat, work the increasing bit until 10 sc between each 2 sc, then work 21 rows of even sc.  Felts beautifully!

I think it's fantastic you are doing this!  Hats off to you.
