I want to cycle to work but on my test run I encounted a lot of gnats, is there anything I can do?

I had gnats everywhere when I came back home, in my hair, all over my face, all over my neck, on my shirt, on my shorts, it was an insane amount of nasty. What do other cyclists do about this?

keep your mouth closed, and don't forget your glasses! not much we can do..

You might try spraying with any DEET-based insect repellant, but at cycling speeds you'll probably hit them anyway.  And with DEET, you'll definitely need to wash up when you get to work.  You will probably have to anyway.

You might wear a windbreaker and equivalent pants (not sweats) so that the gnats get on that and not on your clothing under that.
