I’m not that flexible. I enrolled to dance at school this year and I wanted to know what stretches I can do to help my flexibility fast! Please help. I’m 15 and I’m not sure if I’m too old to start, or if I should have started younger??

  1. Never is too old. It depends where you are heading to. There will always be a company where your own style will work. Dancing does not happen overnight. find a person, group, or company that really make you think "I want to do that". Find a way to practice with their technique (and i said practice, besides study). Practice is finally what will get you on stage in a solid way. Be focused in what you deeply wish. Welcome! Best of luck

  2. I'm 15 now and I'v trained in ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and tap since i was 3 or 4 and pointe since i was 11 or 12. But if you start now and work hard at it you'll be able to get it just fine. And if you work hard in your classes, you'll gain flexibility.

  3. well just by going to class you should get more flexible. you could also practice at home and look up some stretches to do on your own! good luck!

  4. just look up ballet stretches. you don't have to be that flexible to dance.

    hamstrings stretch

    -------------------------

    step 1.. put your back to the wall

    step 2. bend your knees

    step 3. put your chin to your knees

    step 4. slide your feet down with out moving your chin.

    this is a very painful stretch, but it will help.

    ~~~~~floating butterfly~~~~~~~~
    step 1. get on your tummy
    step 2. bend your knees outward and put your feet together.
    tips.... try to keep your butt out of the sky when doing this stretch.
    try toe touches and scorpions.
    --------------------------------------...
    keep praticing you will get there i promise!
  5. You don't have to be that flexible. Just do splits every day for 30 seconds each, and do straddles. You aren't too old to start dancing. No one is too old to start dancing.
  6. its never to late to dance! just stretch everyday. splits !!
    lay down and pul your knee into your chest (right then left)then grab your arch and straighten you leg. make sure that the leg on the floor is straight.
    sit with legs straight out in front of you then reach for your toes!
  7. i started dancing when i was 15 and i caught up to everyone else really fast, you just have to be super dedicated and not afraid or embarrassed to try your hardest during class. put all your effort into it. stretch everyday, literally. and it will come in time. :D
  8. No one is ever to old to start dancing! On "So You Think You Can Dance", the winner last season Sabra, just started dancing 4 years ago!
    Make sure you stretch a lot and stretch after getting out of the shower because your muscles should be warm from the water on the outside. Also stretch before and AFTER dancing and working out to keep from getting sore muscles and staying limber. Stretch when doing homework too, thats what I do!
    Also muscle strength is very important, so start lifting weight and doing crunches and sit-ups. You core muscles are very important to dancing. And leg muscles and arms, everything really. I go to the gym 6 days a week, and stretch everyday before going to sleep and waking up in the morning and I've been dancing for 14 years, still going strong! Hope this helps!
    Oh, and you will probably be in a beginer class so don't worry everyone will probably be at the same level, and just have fun!
