I want to darken a light vaneer with stain can i do this?

i have a gun cabinet that is a light maple veneer covering and i want to stain it to a dark maple can i do this or do i have to paint it

Yes, you can stain it darker. You will need to sand off any clear sealer on the veneer to get to the wood. Then just follow the directions on the stain container. This only applies if it is an actual wood veneer and not "photographed" onto a paper covering.

You can darken the veneer as long as it doesnt have a clear coat on it if it does then sand it lightly then stain it

I don't think the veneer would take the stain. Stain needs to penetrate in order to work correctly. But if you want to try, pick an obscure location and try it.
