My Grandmother was from Ireland and I don't know where to start looking for information. I was advised to check out www.ballybegvillage.com Does anyone know if this is good?

  1. I know that site and can heartily recommend it.  The site has a great section on Irish census records. They also have a section on Irish cottages

  2. If you know your grandmother's full name and roughly where she lived, the Irish census of 1911 is now available on line.  You can actually view the filled in forms and it is very moving if you can see one belonging to your family.  Just google  Irish census results of 1911 and it will come up.  At the moment this is the only year available on line but hopefully they will put more up. If you find the relevant entry it will also show who else was living in the house at that time.

    Good luck.
