Okay, so I am 14 years young. I want to do competitive cheer leading, but I have a problem. I can barley do a round-off, there fore I CAN'T do anything like they do, my jumps are awful, and I have no chance of making it onto a team even.

So if I took tumbling classes, would I be put in a class with little kids?

And if I miraculously made it onto a team...I would be put into one of the younger teams right?

Also, how can I get ready for tryouts?

Thanks SO much!

p.s. what would it cost...classes, and the cheer all together?

  1. You can ask the gym when they hav a private class, it would cost some money but they would help. Or ask a girl on the team, or any other cheerleader for help. Stretch a lot for your jumps.

No, you wouldn't be put with the younger kids. And you would probably be on a Junior team, with some little kids. But if you try really hard you could get your backhandspring quickly and move up.

The cost varies, most Allstar teams do fundraisers to eliminate some costs, you would have to ask the coach.

  2. **If your really dedicated you could go out for competitive cheering even if your not very good. You need to look for a 'Level one Senior team' in your area. That means girls aged 11-19, with little tumbling and easy stunts. If you can find a gym for this team you can be with your age group and get better still being on a competitive team

**to get ready for tryouts, condition with crunches pushups, running, etc and practice simple tumbling and jumps

**And plan on cheering getting expensive - easily a few grand a year with uniforms (~$100) Classes (~$50-100 a month) Competition fees (up to $100each) Travel fees etc

  3. There are lots of tumbling classes with people your age... trying to learn to tumble for the same reasons...

Altogether, my best estimate is roughly $2,000 for everything... it just depends though.  There are tumbling classes, camps, uniforms, etc.
