My dad doesn't understand why I just don't go to public school, when I've always gone to a very small private school that only goes up to 10th grade.

help please.

Thanks.

  1. Here is a helpful article about talking to your parents about homescholing. http://virtualonlineschool.blogspot.com/

    Best of Luck!

  2. I agree with what some posters have said: you have to have some kind of arguement. Your parents will likely be personally  putting in a lot of work and extra time into your education. My mom spent hours making us assignments, grading them, working with us, buying books, researching school requirements, and all sorts of things.

As for some of the other things posted, let me give you an alternative point of view.

One person said homeschooling can't get you into a good college. I currently go to a private college on a full-ride scholarship. Granted I was lucky as many public school students don't get scholarships like mine,  but it's still possible. I've known homeschoolers who've gotten into Harvard. We still have to take the same standardized tests (SATs, ACTs) in order to qualify or graduate and as long as your parents keep good records of your grades and activities, you'll be fine.

As for the social aspect of being in public school and it "not being that bad", that really varies from person to person. Some people love publci school, make a million friends, and describe it as the best time of their lives. Others, like myself, really struggled with it. I went into homeschooling because I am a Native American who was bullied and mistreated in a rural town because of my race. The stress of it made me really physically sick and so homeschooling was a good option for me. Also, there are some people who go to public school who have the misfortune of being unpopular and also don't have any social life. Just because you go to public school it doesn't garauntee that for you.

Anyway, just explain to your father the benefits (in your case) of being homeschooled, because your decision doesn't just greatly effect you but also their lives and free-time.

  3. homeschooling sucks i have to be in it for my FRESHMAN year.. but w/e its borin gand theres no social life at all.. so it sucks. except for i get to stay up late i just have to wake at 8 just tell your dad. and he should hopefully understand it and if not explain to him

its not to late to sign up for this homeschooling im going to

its completely free they send you a computer books, normal classes, and everything just online

just go to www.k12.com and enroll now we start september 4th so if you enroll now youll be fine

  4. try to tell him about how the studies show that homeschooling kids make better grades and do better on tests. that should help. also they have a ton of websites everywhere for almost every city and town that help people homeschool.  good luck to you

  5. I understand your concern with going to a rat infested public school but if u want to get into a good college u can’t be home schooled. Most reputable colleges frown upon home schooling and it is very important that u Do go to college!

  6. I can't believe your father doesn't understand the enormous difficulty in transitioning from a small private school environment to the anonymous free-for-all that is public school. Perhaps he thinks it will be good for you to be exposed to "the real world". How come he hasn't talked to you about his reasons? And how come you haven't talked to him about your (totally justified) fears? Do you have another parent you can go to?

Anyway, I'm not sure home schooling is the answer. I would rather you went to another private school for your final two years. You have to discuss this with someone as soon as possible.

  7. i really dont know but if hes gunna have to teach u then im guessing that he wont want to

  8. well why dont you want to go to a public school?

because without your argument i would say you should probably go to public school homeschooling really shelters people. and public school isnt that bad

  9. you're dad might be nervous about having to teach you. you should express you're interest in home schooling, and try to compromise. you are old enough to take the reins on your schooling, if your dad is able to check over your work that might make things more promising. public school is a BIG difference from private school, and if you only have two more grades than it makes sense to homeschool. homeschooling has plenty of perks, you can probably google it and find out different plans for making it work. (and home schooling doesn't MAKE your social life go, if you keep in touch with friends nothing will change) maybe you can even get one of your friends to consider doing it with you.
