i just feel so annoyed, my friends have had dancing lessons and i just feel that they can do it if they want and poor old me can't. It's so unfair. At the leisure centre there is an ice rink and you can get lessons, but that might just be the basics. I just don't know where to turn please help?? :(

  1. calm down its ok. i'm 12 and i started skating when i was 10. i admit its hard and there are times when i've been disappointed but as soon as i step on the ice i feel so good, its a great thing to do if you under stress or something like that. i had dance lessons for 3 yrs but i had no balance or flexibility when i started. so i had to build up from scratch. lessons are fairly pricey, but its a fair amount of money for the amount of weeks. im not rich either and im soon gonna have to get private lessons(soooo expensive, but u dont have to worry) if you try you'll love it(not at first, it really sux and hurts like heck, but you'll think its nothing when you get in the higher level.) ps try to work on spiral stretches and regular stretches, NEVER run or jog b4 u skate, your legs will be soooo sore.

GOOD LUCK and have fun, just go 4 it!!!

  2. You could always go to a phone book and look up a cheap place to take lessons. Then you could show your freinds how good you areat iceskating.

  3. You can certainly begin to skate lessons and become good at figure skating. I never did dance or ballet as a child, and have done very well as a figure skater. You certainly still have hope. I would suggest following your dream, good luck!

  4. its never to late to start. I mean of course you will not make it to nationals or any big competition, but you can skate for the fun of it.

  5. dont worry about what your friends think. their opinions dont matter if you dont want them to. do your best--there's still hope--not for the olympics really--but then again, never say never. You can be a great skater if you set your mind to it and never give up. (there you CAN say never! good luck!

  6. Don't worry!  You'd do fine in skating.  There are plenty of skaters who don't have a dance background.  Sign up at your local rink and get started on basic lessons.  Once you start jumping and spinning, maybe look into getting a private coach for more advanced things.  Skating can be expensive, but depending on what your goals are, it doesn't have to be out of control.  Group lessons will be cheaper than private, but will still get you heading in the right direction.  You can always get used skates/blades with plenty of life left in them and used dresses to keep cost down.  And when it's time to find a private coach, maybe look for one who you met through group lessons and doesn't charge a ton!

I started when I was 12 and had no prior dance lessons either.  My mom was willing to pay for skating as long as I practiced hard and was enjoying it.  I started in group lessons, then went to private lessons, did plenty of competitions and shows.  I'm still skating, now that I'm much older, and even teaching a little.

You'll do great!  Don't worry and just have fun!

  7. If you want to go to worlds or nationals, you probaly have no hope.sorry. People are 14 and one of the world's best. You also need dance and a personal tranier, or something. You could do it for a recenational sport.

  8. you still have hope. i mean maybe you dont have the money to buy the the lessons you could try getting a sponsor and maybe even your local rink may provide you with financial assistance.(did you ever know that michelle kwan got finacial assistane from the rink she skated at). and you say you have no dance or ballet backround. thats no problem. if you want to make the olympics then ill see you in 2014 or 2018. you never know what your destined to be.if you just want to be a recreational skater then skate for fun. but whatever you want to do good luck.

  9. Get on that ice....You don't need any dance lessons or anything. You can just be taught by the workers at the rink. Its fun. just try it, you never know you might not like it after all.
