I have to take one more class to finish up my associate's in the arts. I have been lost for awhile and don't know what i want to do. I have juggled many different things around but i finally figured it out. I think i want to major in film! I love movies, watching movies, and i would love to be apart of the creation of movies. I want to work on set somewhere exciting. I have no experience in film, the closest is a photography class. What do i do now? Is this a good choice? What are some different areas of film i could go into to be able to work on set or with people and get paid just enough. What schools are good? any info would be great`! thanks :-)

  1. Except for people who work as carpenters and painters (building sets), secretaries and clerks (answering phones and filing papers) and the other boring stuff that people do in any kind of business, nobody gets a job in the movie industry without incredible luck, major talent, extensive training at a "film school" (like the California Institute for the Arts, or USC Film School), or all of the above.  You say you have decided to go into film because you love movies.  So do about a couple of billion other people.  I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but "following your dream" sometimes isn't the wisest course.  At this point, you want to "work in the movies," but what does that mean?  Do you want to be a cinematographer?  Set decorator? Props manager?  What???  Perhaps your best choice would be to visit a film school (or get their catalog) and find out what kinds of study courses are available, how long they will take to complete, what jobs you will qualify for when you finish a course, how often jobs open up in that field, what your chances are of getting hired, and what the course will cost.  With that knowledge, you will be able to make a good decision about whether "film" is really a career for you.

  2. You should start out small find a talent and then try out for a show that shows you talent.
