I want to donate?

I have decided to donate $100,000 to a single non for profit organization dedicated to humanitarian aid. Could you give me any ideas where I could give to?

I have heard about the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Where would you suggest I donate to?

Do some reaserch on grassroot's organizations

grassroots is an important since it means they have been started by a person and are small

Spread the money around...don't give it all to one organization...

since a) example-the org. is helping the poor by serving shellter..give them that money and they will buy beds that the Queen will sleep on.

spread the money around...and just enough that people could do anything with it...maybe 1-10 thousand dollars?or 1-5 not 10....

Just enough that they organization can make a change.

I suggest you donate to a small grass roots group doing practicalhands on things.  Foundations like the ones you mentioned are well endowed with rich folks money and much of what they have goes to staff and headquarters and PR.  I suggest a group that is run mainly by volunteers and keeps overhead under 30% preferably a lot nearer 20%   that meets real basic needs of real people.  My first choice would be Caring Hands Ministries in the SE corner of Appalachia where I have volunteered for 12+ yrs.for more info go to http://www.caringhandsministries.com  For other possibilities please see The Samaritian Guide http://www.samaritanguide.com   These are all organizations that make a difference and do so with little or no government funding.

You might want to check out oxfam - which is designed to erradiate hunger worldwide (http://www.oxfamamerica.org or nothing but nets (http://www.nothingbutnets.org), a charity that buys specially-treated nets so African children will not get bitten by mosquitos (to avoid getting malaria and other illnesses).

Once you decide on a charity, you can check out their financials, the salaries of their staff, etc. by going to:

You have to register first to access tax records (990's) but it is free to register.

You are doing a wonderful thing and the amount of money you are giving will make a HUGE difference and impact so many lives.

Rotary International's foundation has a matching $100,000,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to eradicate global Polio. In other words, your contribution would be doubled. In my opinion, Rotary is the finest secular global service organization.
