Question:

I want to double major?

I already have figured out that I want to major in Health Care Administration and minor in Spanish. I think that I want to either double major or double minor in something to look more credible to future employers. I'm willing to work hard for this. What are some good compliments that I could think about? I like business and office work, but I'm also thinking about something unrelated.

Thank you in advance!!

  1. Nursing, business, communications, advertising, accounting.  Any of those would be great compliments to your long term goals.

  2. Technical Communication (aka Technical Writing) would be a HUGE bonus on your application if you're going into Healthcare Administration. I have a minor in it, and I'd say that 80% of the jobs I've seen available in that field are in health care. It's also a minor that would be outstanding to compliment just about any office-type profession; too few Americans have the ability to write clearly and concisely, believe it or not, and it's a very sought-after skill.

Mine consisted of 5 classes, many of which overlapped into classes I already needed for my major. If you'd like to see mine, it's near the bottom of this page:

As for double-majoring, try to pick a second major that will use many of the classes you already have to take for your first major. At my school, you can get your second Bachelor's by completing an additional 30 credits, as long as you cover all of the requisites. Therefore, it would be much easier for your second major to be, oh, Business Administration, than for it to be, let's say, Music Appreciation. Make sense?

Also, regarding minors, also look into certifications. My Tech Comm is actually a certification, rather than a true minor, and it always looks good to say that you're certified in something. It's just a bigger, more impressive word, LOL!

Do some serious thinking about the Tech Writing, and ask about it at local hospitals and health orginazations. Good luck, whatever you decide, and be sure you don't overload yourself too early!

  3. business is great for any side major because all employers seek those qualities today as well as your experience or communications, pre-med, pharmacy, medical coding somewhere realted to your goal in a way that relates to health is a good double major a languege should remain a minor unless your gonna work as a spanish teacher or a urgent bilingual based job but something a long those lines should be good but remember that it does take more than just time it is a lot of money so unless you could easily get it covered with financial aid orc pay it off good luck and i wish you the best

  4. Well minors aren't looked to as much and aren't even on your college degree so if you're looking for something to make a real impact then you would have to double major. Minoring in spanish is only 4 classes which isn't really much but Intermediate spanish so it would be overlooked by most employers, unless you actually learn to speak spanish well by those classes.
