I want to drink alcohol but im taking metronidazole?

im taking metronidazole annd i want to drink. i was told not to drink it while im taking it. does that mean i cant drink AFTER i take it, or i cant drink period while im on it?

  1. You shouldn't drink until you are completely done taking it. Metronidazole causes what is a called a disulfram-like reaction. Basically it blocks the enzymes in your liver that metabolize alcohol, causing acetaldehyde intermediates to build up and make you sick.


  2. it means no drinking while you are on the medication.

    no alcohol, period!

  3. you cant drink the period that your on it.

    even after you take it, it will be in your system and the alcohol will still react with it until its out of your system.

  4. About a tenth of people taking metronidazole have an Antabuse-like reaction. If you don't mind barfing up your toenails, go ahead and drink this week. Otherwise, you'll want to wait.
