I want to dub music to a Vhs master tape. Will a Tascam Four-track be an acceptable medium to transfer it?

Or a Cd player? Or anything with an audio output. Can I dub the music simultaneously during playback or do I need to do it onto a new tape in another VCR?

  1. To add sound to an already recorded VHS tape means you have to record on the linear (non-HiFi) tracks. The linear tracks are poor quality and only play mono on most VCRs.  But any deck that allows dubbing will allow you to watch the picture simultaneous.  not all VCRs allow mixing the HiFi track with the linear track on playback.

If you re-record both the audio and video, then you can use the HiFi audio. But that puts the video down another generation, and if playback is not through S-cables and TBC, the picture will take a big loss in quality.

Why are you using VHS in this digital age? This is really a job for a computer editor which can easily handle multiple audio and video tracks without quality loss.
