once told my mom to start buying organic food and she said it so expensive and she told me it costs twice as much... I've seen organic food myslef and it only costs like 20% more and I have 2 friends that eat organic food and told me the same thing and they told me it tastes great and I've tried it myself at my friends house and I liked it much better and I felt better about myself and the enviroment.... And everytime I eat regular food I just think about all the junk they put in it- and I'm eating that junk.. What can I do??? And don't tell me to get a job and buy my own food I'm only 14.... All I do is mow the lawn and Its obviously not enough to buy my own groceries....

  1. Grow your own organic plants. Any vegis/fruit that grow without using pesticides are organic.

  2. This would take some work but plan a week or month's grocery list, then go to Whole Foods and see what from that list you can get organic and add up the cost for the whole list. If it's more than what your mom pays now see if there are creative ways you can make it cheaper by changing what you need and revise it.  Once you have a plan that is close to what she pays now show it to her and wow her socks off. She'll know you've thought it through.

Here's some of the cost saving things I do:

Eat tofu - it's much cheaper than meat. You may need a good cookbook at first.

Buy from the bulk goods bins - this saves 30-60% on things like oatmeal and spices.

Instead of organic milk compromise and get the hormone free milk.

Eat fresh fruit and veggies for snack - they're cheaper than packaged processed snacks.

Cook meals as much from scratch as possible. Prepared food costs more. Buy whole chickens and fruits.

I'm not brand picky so I get whatever's cheapest per unit.

  3. shop at Whole Foods.
