I want to go around Ky and teach children about animal cruelty, and tell them how to handle situations if they know where it is happening at. I feel it is vital to educate the youth. im young myself, but i can open a shelter, but i really want to fight animal cruelty. So what do i need to go around and teach the children? any liscense? i do plan on taking a couple of friendly dogs with me so i know they have to have there shot records but that would be all right?

  1. I did a presentation at school in 5th grade about it. i got a cow toy and stuffed it in it and it drew lots of attention. I also had a poster with animal abuse stories and pictures. COLORFUL PICTURES kids love to look at. Maybe with the dogs you plan to take you could let them pet them and play with them then you could tell them about a animal abuse story? Something shocking not too shocking because you could freak them out!

Also Teaching the kids about this subjest is really nice of you.

    Good job!

  2. It depends, what age kids, and i think is is a great thing your doing but probally not for under 10's the parents might not be to happy with that, it may freck them out, probally high schools!

hope i help a tiny bit!

  3. Well, it depends.

Really, do you need to be educating kids?

They're not the ones who are going to be calling the SPCAs/police right now- their parents are.

And how do you plan to educate them? Shock photographs, shock stories?

Or just going 'Animal cruelty is bad. Phone this number if you think it is going on.'

You may breed a whole new generation of worriers who think because a dog doesn't get walk 2.5 times a day, it's cruelty.

You need to be careful what you teach kids, as they misread situations and it would be best for you to leave it up to their parents to teach wrong and right in this situation, as they'll be the ones reacting, not the kids.

To be honest, animal cruelty is not so common place that kids NEED to be educated in it. I work in a pet shop, am eighteen, and have NEVER seen an instance of active animal cruelty- they're quite rare to find, so you don't really need to be taught about it.

Besides, everyone knows what animal cruelty is, and they don't need to be taught, and most of them won't abuse animals, so, again, don't need to be taught abuse/cruelty is bad.

Also, if you do use shock techniques or teach them wrongly, they may decide they have to 'step in' during animal cruelty situations- putting themselves in legal or physical danger. For example, if they see someone kicking a dog- highly unlikely, but just an example- they may step in and get hurt themselves, by the distressed dog or the angry human. Another example is if they think a rabbit is being neglected or abused, they may 'break in' to a neighbour's yard and steal the rabbit- getting themselves in legal trouble.

It's hard, even with older children, to make clear that all you should do is phone the police (in active incidents of cruelty) or the SPCA, and not get involved. You may cause problems- children don't need this as part of their education.

    ***

99% OF CHILDREN KNOW ANIMAL CRUELTY IS WRONG AND DON'T NEED TO BE TAUGHT.

That's it, that's all. And the ones who have it 'passed down' won't listen to you.

And no, we don't sell puppies or kittens. No pet shop in the UK does, because we're not a cruel country. =)

  4. Show them some true videos on how big animals like BIG bear hurt and kill people or show them true pics.

  5. To open a shelter is a huge process.  You need licensing and classes.  You can find  lots of info. at this site: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ You should find a local rescue group and get involved.  Most every county has a rescue group of some kind.  You can call the chamber of commerce in you county and the local sheriffs department for contact information to the local rescue groups.  We need more people like you.  Don't ever forget what motivates you and keep in the fight for our animals.

Don't let people get to you.  One of the most important things when approching someone is not to do it out of anger, instead out of love for the animal.
