I want to experience Latin America, where should I go?

Question

Trying to decide where to go on a trip this Summer to experience Latin America. I went to Peru this past Summer, loved it, although since we spent very little time in Lima, there wasn't much exposure to Latin culture. So what's the best place? Mexico, maybe Venezuela?

Brazil also intrigues me, although that's not Latin. Can anyone tell me whether there is a noticeably different vibe in Brazil then in other South American countries? Just wondering. Brazil's high on my list too. Or, you can just tell me what you think the #1 place you'd want to go to in all of South America (plus Mexico and Central America).'

Brazil...but it´s a gigantic country, with lots of different culture and long distances to travel.

Brazilian way of life is very different of the rest of Latin America.

if you notice on a map, all central america is very small so if i were you i would take my backpack, fly to mexico then go down south by bus until panama. Distance between each country is about 8 hours by 10$ confortable bus (ticabus). Now that's adventure and i think that's what travellers are looking for isn't it???? ;)

Honduras. Inexpensive and not overly Americanized. The people and food are wonderful!!

Every country offers something different, whether you're talking about food, music, scenery, etc.  Pick 3 countries and spend at least a week in each one.  Safety should be your number one concern.  After that, have fun!  I enjoy Honduras.

I have lots of friends that live in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, and Mexico

I think the best place to go would be Chile because it has beaches, desert, mountains, cities, and islands.  Any type of geographical experience you want you can find in this one country. :D
