I want to find a car for a 16-year-old girl. Could you please keep the cost low, though? Thanks!

  1. you can go on different websites and find used cars.

    Use autotrader.com

it's reliable and easy to use.

    good luck!

  2. The good news is with gas prices as low as they are you can get a cheap car just about anywere!

Finding a Herbie replica on the other hand will cost a bit more, and to be honest older VW's arn't very safe for a teenager to drive.

    check out www.craigslist.com

and ebay. Also go to a few used car lots, if you have cash you are in a good place to barter! Tell them you will give them less then sticker price (it's hard to say how much, because I don't know your budget) If it's a 5,000 dollar car though I would offer 4,000 give them your number and tell them that if they don't sell it in a few days to give you a call...with the way cars sales are going right now, they will call!

but I would do private party first, most of the time private party is the best place to get a good deal. And n matter what you do, offer less then sticker price!

  3. volkswagon very good on gas

  4. This decision involves more than just what car to buy, but also whether to even give a 16-year-old a car, and if so, what rules to set around how, where, and when it is driven.

The following article includes some great thoughts and experiences on those topics from listeners of the CarTalk radio show.  (Note that those responding voted 2-1 against giving a 16-year-old a car, echoing 'capixaba's thoughtful advice.)

This 'Dr. Gwenn' column suggests that the parent and teen might consider agreeing to a written contract about rules for driving the car, and paying for its expenses:

These articles mention a number of relatively inexpensive (to buy, drive, maintain, and insure) used cars, including the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, Mazda 3, and Ford Focus, among others:

These articles suggest somewhat bigger cars - "sedate, mid-sized sedans" - are the safest for teens, both because they protect teen drivers and their passengers better in the event of an accident, and they won't be as tempted to speed or otherwise drive them irresponsibly.  They suggest a number of makes and models in that category; for instance, the Ford Five Hundred came up on both lists:

As for a "Herbie" car, the VW New Beetle comes to mind, although more recent years probably aren't in the "low cost" category.  (You might need to go back to the 1998-2001 cars to get anywhere close to that.)  The more recent models have somewhat decent crash test ratings, particularly for the driver and front-seat passenger:

  5. When I was 16 I went for a second-hand Toyota that I bought from a friend's brother. That proved the best option and it ran without bother for over 4 years.

That's the best way to go about it... Find a trusted person (through friends, relatives) who want to dispose off a car and offer to buy off of them.

Have it inspected at the garage and take it for a test ride around the corner to check her comfort level with it.

  6. i would go with a honda or a toyota. something small.

  7. I got my daughters a used bmw. It wasnt very expensive. (they didnt kno it was used)

  8. first of all, what do you mean by low??

5,000 or 3,000 or 8,000. You have alot of choices

for starter and first timer and girls

    Civic

    Corolla

    Focus

Mazda3(hard to find an used one under 8000)

    Sentra

for starter car, the industry is dominated by imports

  9. buy a old honda a freind bought one really really cheap from junk yard but in nice condition

  10. Jeep Liberty

    -Good on gas

    -Affordable

-Not too small so safe if she gets into an accident

    -Looks nice

    -Dependable

  11. For her sake, please postpone the car unless she has such an extraordinary need for it that it is indispensable.  I apologize for this answer because I know it is not what you want to hear, but children--a 16 year old is still mostly a child--can seldom appreciate a car and the responsibility that goes with it.

If you do opt for buying her the car anyway, place safety and reliability above cost.  You are investing in your daughter's (I assume you are the mother) life and safety.

  12. this bike!

  13. for $4,000

    look for

98 Acura CL, 98 Ford Mustang V6, 98 Honda Accord or Civic, 98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder, 98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy, 98 -00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

  14. Well,

First of  all we must looking for  car driver  "chofer"

then U can thinking about the Car

    thanks

  15. It's gotta be fuel efficient and easy to drive.  Not too much power as well.

    Toyota Prius

    Honda Fit

    Subaru Impreza

These cars are fuel efficient and have a very high safety rating.

  16. Go on ebay or craigslist or look in the pennysaver for a car around $3,000.  She can trade up as she earns more money with a PT job.  I got an 89 chevy at 16 (in 1997) and it served me very well.
