Question:

I want to find my brother?

I have known for a few years now that I have a brother that was put up for adoption as soon as he was born. I dont want to speak ill of the dead but my father was not a good person and even though he was cruel to all of us he was even harder on the boys. I now understand that it was best for my brother to be adopted however now that I am older and he as well I want to know him. I have no information except the name he was given at birth because my mother refuses to give it to me, and my father didnt care enough to ask if the baby was a boy or a girl. I know there is a very big chance that I will never find him and even if I do find him he may not want to know me. However, we deserve the right to know one way or the other. I just don't have a clue of where to start without damaging my already unstable relationship with my absent mother. Please, any information will be helpful and I would like to thank everyone now who replies. I truly do appreciate it.

  1. you shoud use white pages and check myspace

  2. In what state did the adoption take place?  This makes a difference in how accessible information is via public records.  You can't access his adoption records, but since you know his birth name and birth date, you've got something for starters.

I located my 1/2 brother and 1/2 sister without even knowing their names.  All three of us were raised by different people.

    ETA:

Definitely check out Possum's links.  These are good places for searchers.

  3. You will need his date of birth - and the state he was born in - along with his name at birth - and the names of his bio parents.

Then - here are some steps you can take (if you are in the US)

First - add your details to the registries here

    http://registry.adoption.com/

Check here for information on the state records here -

(click on the page marked 'Searchers' down the left hand side)

Check here for search help - and links to search angels -

All the very best with your search.
