I am adopted. I'm 14 and I have a closed adoption. Is there any way that I can find or search for my mother. I was born in the same city I live in now.

  1. Legally you can not use the regular channels for adoption search and reunion on your own.  If you have the support of your parents, they can register with the state or other directories on your behalf.  Each state has different laws as to what they consider an adult adoptee's legal age is.  This age can range from 18 to 25.  Check out this site and it will detail each states laws to determine what if any steps you can take at this point.

I wish you the best of luck!

If you haven't had this conversation yet regarding searching with your parents, I recommend doing it now.  The longer that you wait to talk to them the harder it will be.  They love you and they know that you will be curious regarding your start in life.  It can be a difficult conversation to start but keeping things open with them will help you in your search.

  2. I was 15 when I started the search for my birthmother. I wrote the agency my adoption was through, which actually closed down. So eventually I was sent to a local agency here (many states away from where I was born) and I recieved the non-identifying information then. That helped me get some answers to my past and about who my birthmom was when I was born.

I would start with that, and then when you're an adult consider pursuiing things further. Legally in the United States you need to be 18 before the courts will consider opening your records.

  3. go to this site hope it tells you what your looking for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_adop...

  4. try talking to your adoptive parents and see if they will help and they might be able to help and maybe they will give you support as you look for your birth mother.....

  6. im adopted too,why dont you try to visit my profile,i have the same question,go to my question the answer is there,it will help you alot ...good luck!

  7. You should talk to the place you were adopted from they should know. Good Luck!

  8. so you know for sure that your birth mother is from that area? if so i would try running a ad in the paper i wouldn't put your name in there just your birth date time weight any of that you know the hospital etc and give an e-mail address no phone number you might get allot of creeps if you put that. or a cell if you want. you can hire a private investigator and all that but it could be expensive so i would start with an add. she might be looking for you or have some family locally who would remember. good luck

  9. I hope you find her. Unfortunately, I had to wait until I was 18. It is a long wait but please dont give up hope. Do you know her name? That would be sooo helpful. I didnt. I just contacted the agency I was placed out of.

  10. talk to your adoptive parents, maybe they know who your really parents are/were.

  11. There are reasons adoptions are "Closed" - either the parent doesn't want you to find them or the adoptive parents don't want them to find you. Either way - start with your adoptive parents - find the facts.

Just remember, your adoptive parents choose you. They love you and they are your family now.

I found my biological father when I was 30 (I started when I was 15), the need was there to know more about him - after finding him - and it wasn't like the stories they show on TV where people are all happy and crying excitingly to see each other - I would have been better off not finding him at all. It just brought a whole new world of problems that I (no one) really need! I had a last name to go by and so we did a yahoo.com search which brought up an 800 number and located him right away.

I'm not saying your story will go like mine - because no matter what any one tells you, you will always be curious. I wish you the best of luck though!

The man that raised me is my father - he was there for every bit of my life, good or bad and I love him for it!
