Vyacheslav Malafeev has said he wants to stay at Petrovsky stadium until he retires and that he would love to agree a new deal with the Russian Premier League club
Zenit St. Petersburg goal-keeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vyacheslav-Malafeev-c36502, is mulling over signing a new long-term deal with the Russian outfit that will see him finish his playing career at Petrovsky stadium.
The defending Russian Premier League champions are unlikely to offer a new contract to Malafeev, whose contract will expire in June 2013.
The Russian Cup winner, who missed Friday’s league tie against Alania Vladikavkaz after sustaining a knee injury, failed to play much of the last season after spending time on the sidelines with constant injuries.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello, Russian national team head coach, has dropped the prolific shot-stopper, who represented his country at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
Consequently, the Russian goalkeeper has been linked with a move to CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow during the ongoing summer transfer window that remains open until September 10, 2012.
However, the UEFA Cup winner has denied these reports after revealing that he is pondering over signing a new contract with the defending champions. Malafeev revealed that he is happy at the St. Petersburg and assured the fans
of ending his career at Petrovsky.
“They have not renewed a contract with me until yet. My contract expires in 2013.”
“I will not join CSKA or Spartak if I leave. Perhaps I will leave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 If Zenit are not interested in extending my contract. So far everything is just at the level of talk and nothing specific. Personally, I have always been
proud to play for Zenit. I think this club has one of the best fans in the world.”
“I think goalkeepers can play up to 40 years. So, I think I can still play for another 4-6 years.” The Russian national was quoted as saying.
Malafeev revealed that goalkeepers can play for a longer period as compared to the team players and gave the example of Manchester United’s Van der Sar.
