I want to fit a new stereo in my Clio but the stereo in there is apparently 'fixed', help?

Question

I've a Renault Clio 1999, I've a new stereo I want to fit it to get rid of the awful cassette player already in there, only problem is the stereo already in there I can't find a way to get it out, which sucks.

Anyone have any idea;

What does it mean by 'fixed' in?

Can I remove it and replace it with the one I've got?

and

If so, How?

Any help would be appreciated

They'll be a "key" to replace it. Not a real key but it'll be like a certain shape of metal, Go to your local car shop like Halfords and they'll sell you the bit you need. You might also need a replacement fascia to fill any hole that you new stereo doesn't fit, Also you might need leads to make your stereo compatible with the Clio's control.

It's actually really easy to fit a stereo now as it's all clips, not lose wires like they used to be.

Alternatively Halfords offer a fitting service for about £20, and so do alot of other places.

ok dont panic it isnt solid it will just require a specialist tool which somewhere like halfords will have as the tool pushies in the stereo will start to come out from the dash the tool needed is a simple radio lock key tool set which is usually like a 2 pronged fork ( if you got 2 small round holes on either side of the stereo) and also you may require a blanking plate to cover excess dash where the new stereo fits/dosn't these are readilly avaliable from halfords. hipe this helps.

Get a tool which slides in either side of the thing and pull it out. Some come with them. You may have to hunt or get them from the manufacturer of the original.
