  1. FIRST of all... you need a COLLEGE DEGREE.. a 4 YEAR college degree and then you can join the Air Force and apply for flight school

  2. I think that jim, manthebraces, Logan C, and Yo all have good answers but forgot to mention that the F/A-18 Hornet is a Navy/Marine aircraft(at least in the USA).

  3. First thing, you have to learn not to call it a "fighter jet."  All fighters are jets.  It's either a jet, or a fighter.  Good luck with your goal.

  4. in reality try to get in the transport or refueling aircraft like the c-117 c-130 C-5 and KC-135 (soon to be replaced). because you'll need a job after the military and the fast track to the airlines is through a cargo background. if I were to hire a pilot today I would want one with experience in cargo loading operations including the extensive weight and balance problems that come with such a category of large aircraft. while not as glamorous a job as a fighter pilot, the rewards are usually greater than you might think.

    remember

plan for the future so that the past does not hold you down

  5. Only you can decide if you wish to dedicate your life to fighter aviation.  Make no mistake, that's what it will require of you.  IMHO there was nothing quite like feeling the 'burners light, and heading out to mix it up.  If you like to fly there's worse ways to make a living.  I would caution you that if you want to do it to "be cool" or for any other reason than this is a personal goal (regardless of what others may think) you will most likely not do well.  Your job is to serve your country by going into harm's way-and in situations where you may not likely come back.  That's what military flying is all about: we kill people and break their stuff.  If that's a problem for you -you don't belong here.

Since you're sitting on the fence, I would suggest keeping your options open:  Work hard in school, get great grades and get involved in extracurricular activities.  Stay out of trouble.  This will help position you for either an Academy slot, or maybe an ROTC scholarship for college.  Get/stay in great physical condition:  military aviation is mentally and physically demanding.  It's expensive but if you can, go start some flying lessons-see if you really enjoy it.  Read up on aviation, especially military aviation & military history.  Many of the air/air tactics haven't changed since WW1.  Go to military airshows/open houses and talk with the crews.  We ALWAYS enjoyed talking to young men and women who wanted to fly-if for no other reason than we were those guys once.

If you have other questions, please PM me.

  6. h**l who doesnt :))

  7. join the airforce

  8. The best ways to do it are described above.  Jim has it right, that when you are doing it, you have to live it, breath it, and bleed it.

    Academics

    Physical health

    Extra-curricular activities

Private flight time if possible (as much instrument time as possible)

    College education

Officer commissioning program of your choice

Flying fighters isn't so much about hand-eye skills as it is about learning more quickly than everyone else and using your mind to quickly evaluate dynamic abstract pictures.  These are things that you cannot possibly fully fathom at this point (and I'm not underestimating you) so spend your time with the above steps, do your best, and hopefully things will work out.  There is no way for you to get a jump on that stuff.  Just check out my answer here to learn more, (What is the reality of flying a Fighter Jet?) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...  I knew I wanted to fly jets in the Navy when I was hitting pre-school and I pursued it obsessively, but just keep in mind that the realities are very different from the dreams.  Not necessarily bad or good, just different.

  9. its up to you kid if you wanna fly the hornet its all up to you follow your dreams. i love planes i wanna be a pilot also we have alot in common maybe i'll see you in the skies with your hornet :)
