I want to format the C drive in my computer. When I try, it asks for Volume Label. What does it mean?

  1. it just needs a drive name, it wont matter what you really name it.


  2. Volume label is "C:" (with a colon)

    If you are using DOS, "format C:" probably isn't a great idea. If you are trying to install another operating system, the OS disk will have a format tool on it that will do everything for you.

  3. Volume Label is what you want the drive to be named.  So you can call it anything from "Local Disk" to "My HDD."

  4. it just wants you to give the drive a name.  doesn't matter what you name it.
