I have a PS3, a 1080P HDTV, and HD Comcast cable. What receivers should I be looking at to get TRUE HD sound and the best picture possible? I assume I should use HDMI from my PS3 and cable box.... or should I? Can someone help me - steer me in the right direction? I also want to go as inexpensive as possible. :) Thanks!

  1. You must use HDMI to get TRUE HD.  You need a receiver capable of HDMI 1.1, which can accept multi channel PCM.  As a PS3 does not send TRUE HD as bitstream, you do not need an HDMI 1.3 capable receiver.  I have a Harmon Kardon AVR247 hooked up to my PS3 via HDMI and can get TRUE HD (up to 7.1 channels) via multi channel PCM.  However, to be honest, I really cannot tell that much a difference between it and regular Dolby Digital.  I don't think the upgrade is worth it.
