I want to get a Garter Snake?

i need to know a few things.

what kind of environment should i keep it in?

how much do they cost?

what should i feed it?

do the eat meant AND veggies?

how big do they get?

and where could i find one[pet co..pet smart, places like that?]

what kind of environment should i keep it in?

Room temperature to warm enviorment. I live in las vegas so I don't need any lamps or anything. And you need to have it by a window for sunlight. And you need a shedding wood.

how much do they cost?

I got mine for 40 dollars.

what should i feed it?

My snake lives on fish. She doesnt like worms, mice or anything thats on land. But most snakes will eat worms or mice. But if you plan on feeding it fish, don't feed it gold fish. It has toxins in it that can cause a shorter life span. And some snakes like their fish dead on arrival, or just put in their water bowl for a hunt. If you get a baby snake, you can get it rosey red minnows. they are small and healthy for them until they are bigger. And when they are full grown, not two minnows, more like 4-6 minnows once a week every week. You can go to a fishing store and ask for half a dozen medium size minnows.

small living things. Like fish, worms, small frogs, etc.

how big do they get?

Mine is 2 feet - 3 feet long

1. They live in a moist and damped enviroment so make sure the tank is damp and moist

2. They can range from $5-25 sometimes more depending on where you buy them.

3. They eat rosies, crickets, meal worms, or pinkies.

4. Sorry hun, they don't eat veggies.

5. They can get up to 3-4 feet long but they don't get so wide.

6. I don't recommend Petsmart, Pecto, Perfect Pets, or any other big time pet store because all of their pet is kept in a horrible condition. Most of their snakes are sick, and most of them are suffering from respiratory infection. So if you buy your snake from the big time pet store, there is a high chance it would die by the end of the week. I would recommend getting it off of craigslist.org or adopting it from a local animal shelter or a reptile rescue.

I use to have two, they are adopted from a local reptile rescue. Both very friendly and very loveable. None was sick, and I felt great knowing that I just saved an animal rather then killing 2 snake because I wanted to buy one ASAP....no lie, it was the best feeling in the world. Just because animals are no different from us, so thinking that you just save this animal from probably being killed, it a wonderful feeling. They lived for a while. Then died at old age. So I would recommend adopting or looking for one that needs a home. Please don't buy it from the big time pet store. If all hopes are lost then, I would last(as much as I don't want to) recommend a local breeder. But don't buy them from stores.

1. keep it in the same invironment as any other snake, with someplace to hide and a heat source.

2. they are normally around 20-30 dollars

3. they like to eat minnows, get one or two and put them in a water dish and let them catch them.

4. they dont eat veggies

5. they get about 3ft. long

The Garter Snake or Genus is so far ranging due to its unparticular  to different biomes and landforms from marshes to hillsides to drainage ditches and even vacant lots in both dry and wet regions with varying proximity to water and rivers.Howewer in the western part of North America these snakes are more water loving than in the eastern portion.If You want more information abut this you can investigate from wikipedia.
