  1. road or mountain?

you can get real cheap mountain bikes in any bike shop but if you want a road bike for less than $100, you are going to have to special order from walmart.

  2. try walmart or buy used- maybe craigslist.com

  3. Definitely go used. At least in NYC the used bike prices on craigslist can get pretty high, but there are still plenty of deals to be had on used bikes at local bike shops and even places like Savers / Salvation Army / Goodwill. I've picked up quite a few great bikes for under $20 in the most expensive city in the world.

  4. Go to Target. They have decent cruiser bikes there for about a hundred.

  5. i would say a norco mountaineer, they have decent suspension, disc-brakes, and a quality shimano shifting system for about $350 for the newest model brand new, but a used 2005/04 would go for $100-$130. You could also see this years model at www.norco.com if you are interested
