I'm looking at a Sony I saw at Best Buy for $399 and then was thinking about the PS3, it plays blue ray discs and is the same price. Does anyone know if it also plays old dvd's and how is the quality and sound of the PS3 compared to a stand alone unit? Thanks

  1. I have a PS3 and a Samsung Blu Ray, the quality is better on the Samsung player but not by much.  I have heard mixed feelings on the matter of that it is bad to watch a lot of movies on a PS3, so I bought a stand along player just in case.  I was able to pick it up when it was on sale.  The sound is great on both They both play standard DVD's and even Burned DVD's they will upconvert them to near High Def.  Keep in mind that for 399 PS3 you are looking at a 60G and will not play PS2 games on it.  the 80G will.  But that will run you another 100 bucks.

In short there really is not a difference between the two, they are both outstanding picture quality and sound quality.  You can't go wrong with either or.
